Challenges
Customer J in Kaohsiung was facing a significant labor shortage. The demanding nature of the job and high-temperature working conditions led to frequent employee turnover. Training a new worker to accurately read drawings and operate tools took months.
The manual drilling of beams consumed a great deal of energy, especially during hot summers, which impacted productivity and quality, causing the customer to struggle with meeting order demands, delivery timelines, and maintaining product quality.
Solution
To address these challenges, the customer implemented the GDM STD-105 steel beam drilling machine with the AutoMate Type Z system.
Initially, they integrated the STD-105 steel beam drilling machine with a conveying system. All operational data are uploaded from the office network directly to the machine. The operator simply uses a crane to load steel beams onto the conveyor buffer zone and presses a button. The system then automatically handles the material movement and processing based on order instructions. This allows the operator to be mobile on the production floor and attend to other tasks. A new worker can learn the operation in less than an hour.
The STD-105 steel beam drilling machine runs continuously without needing breaks, significantly improving efficiency, reducing quality defects, and minimizing safety risks. Encouraged by the success, the customer expanded their production line by introducing the AutoMate Type Z, integrating the STD-105 for beam drilling, and adding the SBS-650 for beam cutting.
